Three weeks before the midterms and Trump's Homeland Security Department just raided the home of Democratic Rep. Ilhan Omar of Minnesota.
As Marcy Wheeler (aka emptywheel) points out, Trump's Homeland Security Department has a history of fabricating charges against people from Minnesota and framing Democrats for crimes they didn't commit.
Meanwhile Elon Musk, a known criminal from Africa, a man whose bribes to voters, concealed payments and illegal lotteries may have been the least of his crimes in the 2024 presidential election, is at it again.
On 10 October, CNN revealed some of the elements of Musk's latest and seemingly still-expanding 2026 election fraud scheme.
A phishing scam masquerading as official election information
In Colorado and Washington, two vote-by-mail states where there is no need to request a ballot, Musk is spreading misinformation and confusion with deceptive, official-looking text messages telling people "your ballot request is in."
The texts ask people to click a link so that Musk's operation can collect their personal information, including their cell phone numbers and email addresses, allowing Musk's America PAC to target them with follow-up messaging ahead of election day.
The texts are just one aspect of the sophisticated digital campaign Musk is running to help Republicans limit the damage in the 2026 midterms.
As The New York Times revealed on 12 October (gift link), "Musk has quietly funneled more than $276 million into Republican groups and his super PAC since the start of July, building a huge turnout operation to help the party battle headwinds in the midterm elections."
As the Times notes, it's a "staggering amount" that makes Musk, "by far the largest known donor in the midterms."
Musk commits crimes. Trump gives him a medal
While democratically elected Rep. Ilhan Omar's home is raided by Trump's goons, similar action has not been taken against her fellow immigrant from Africa.
That's despite the fact that Elon's brother Kimbal, who was introduced to at least two women by Jeffrey Epstein, has publicly admitted the Musks were "illegal immigrants" when they started their first company in America, a fact confirmed by The Washington Post in 2024 (gift link).
Trump signaled his endorsement of Musk's election interference by awarding the "crackpot billionaire" a National Medal of Science at the White House on 8 October.
In return, Musk signaled his support of Trump's new alliance with Putin by attacking Ukrainian president Zelensky on X, prompting a reply from Kirill Dmitriev, CEO of the Russian Direct Investment Fund, encouraging Musk to build a tunnel between Russia and Alaska.
Musk is a known phone pal of Putin's, so his allegiance to America is something no high-IQ person should take for granted.
Nevertheless, Trump and Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth have allowed Elon and his companies to become deeply embedded into the U.S. government's technology infrastructure.
Today, the Pentagon not only relies on Musk's Starlink and SpaceX for military communications and satellites, it also uses Musk's xAI in its classified systems.
In addition, Musk's "anti-woke," porn-generating Grok chatbot is helping power the new America.gov website, even as questions swirl about how sensitive personal information from different government agencies might be combined, accessed, or misused — both within the government and by private companies.
Three weeks until the midterms.
The raid on Ilhan Omar is an "October surprise" that should be no surprise.
Expect more surprises in the days ahead as Trump plans his next attack and Elon's war on America continues.
