Totalitarianism Tuesday

What might a would-be dictator facing crushing defeat be doing five months before the midterms?

Totalitarianism Tuesday

What would the first Tuesday in June look like if you lived in a country where a corrupt, would-be dictator facing Orbán-like levels of disapproval was looking to set the stage to disrupt or even (ha ha!) cancel the midterm elections?

Here's what Trump and his administration are up to today:

Trump, who likes to target his political enemies, names Bill Pulte, most famous for weaponizing government agencies against innocent people, as acting director of national intelligence.

Pulte has alleged wrongdoing related to mortgages against Trump’s foes, Federal Reserve Governor Lisa Cook and New York Attorney General Letitia James.

Trump, who pardons his friends when they commit financial crimes, is giving Palantir the power to make "IRS data easily accessible to any app."

Here is the Contract for Palantir’s Super API for the IRS
The API would make IRS data available to any app the agency wishes. The Criminal Investigation arm of the IRS is also modernizing its own systems.

Trump, a convicted felon known to use insider information for market manipulation and personal profit, is now requiring his administration to be given access to "powerful AI systems before they are publicly released."

Trump signs order seeking early access to powerful AI models before release
President Donald Trump previously delayed the signing of the order over concerns that it could hinder American competitiveness.

Pete Hegseth, a man who enjoys deploying troops onto U.S. streets for the slightest of reasons and whose many stupidities have attracted unfavorable media scrutiny, is now designating the Pentagon’s press office as a "classified space." Just one of his many recent moves to restrict press access to the defense department.

Revocation of access is newest attempt by Trump’s defense department to restrict reporting on military affairs

These are among the stories we know about.

As Mark Jacob writes in his Stop the Presses newsletter this week, there's plenty of news that no longer gets reported.

Meanwhile, Elon Musk and his fellow tech fascists are going all in to support the Trump regime this year, even after Elon's ex Ashley St. Clair revealed recently that Musk told her (as well as his then-4-year-old son X) about his election manipulation in 2024.

We're still five months away from the first Tuesday in November.

Buckle up.
