Morning in America

It's time to stop comparing Joe Biden to Jimmy Carter. And start comparing him to F.D.R. or Clinton or Obama. Or even Ronald Reagan

Morning in America

To paraphrase what I wrote on July 1:

For the next 106 days, the Democratic Presidential campaign should become, at least in part, a victory lap for Joe Biden.

It's a chance for Biden and his surrogates to criss-cross the country celebrating Biden's unprecedented achievements in terms of job growth, infrastructure investments, and historic action on climate.

It's a chance to highlight the distance between Charlottesville and today. Between the horror of 2020 and today. Between January 6th and today. Between Trump and today.

It's a chance for Biden to promote the strengths of his history-making successor Kamala Harris and her own sure-to-be-history-making VP nominee.

It's a chance to showcase a Democratic vision for the future that contrasts clearly with the unpopular, extremist vision of the criminal Trump, his extremist running mate, and his fascistic minions in blue suits and red ties.

It's a chance to truly make voters understand the decades-long danger to America that would unfold if Trump 47 were allowed to replace two or more of the aging, corrupt, black-robed extremists on the Supreme Court with younger, more extreme models.

It's also a chance to talk about the toll the Presidency takes on a man heading into his 80s. "Dark Brandon" can now poke fun at the increasing debilitation Trump is displaying on the campaign trail—and how easily this corrupt and criminal man will be manipulated by the evildoers around him (Elon Musk, Steve Bannon, Stephen Miller, The Heritage Foundation, etc.)

Finally, it's a chance to make sure no one in the media ever compares Joe Biden to Jimmy Carter. Because Biden deserves to be compared to Presidents known for their historic achievements, such as F.D.R. or Clinton or Obama. Or even that guy Reagan who told us, despite 4% inflation in 1984 (vs. 3% today), that it was "Morning in America."
