If you already knew Joe Biden was old before the New York Times published 26 breathless articles on the topic in a single week in March 2024, the question has to be asked: What stories weren't they telling?
Amid a highly foreseeable deluge of Trumpian lies, misinformation and distraction, the corporate media consistently failed Americans throughout this highly consequential election year—even as Elon Musk carjacked the steamroller of fascism and floored the gas pedal.
The sad reality is that most 2024 voters were spoon-fed a highly distorted right-wing narrative based on a host of alternative facts about transgender people, crime, immigrants, and pets in Ohio.
While conservative lies, rumors and distractions were reliably parroted by journalists and pundits, other important truths and vital stories that in other years—or in other countries—would have been considered major news were largely ignored.
10 important stories—from the scandalous to the simply factual—that were deemed less "newsworthy" than Biden's age
Imagine what might have happened if journalists at the Times and other outlets had dedicated themselves to making sure Americans could process and discuss news that didn't originate from Elon Musk's tweets or the GOP/Fox News list of daily talking points.
How many voters know that:
- Trump dated one Epstein victim as soon as she turned 20. More here.

Some of these stories—like the strength of the US economy and the threat posed by Elon Musk—are finally being discussed more openly.
But that's too little, too late.
The failures of corporate and billionaire-owned media—from the New York Times to the Washington Post, CNN to ABC News—have allowed misinformation to flourish, kept America misinformed and brought America to the brink of fascism.
Equally terrifying: Our national media have failed to communicate the difference between the fascism of the 1930s and the 2020s.
This time around, tech billionaires have all the tools (and all the cash) they need to make fascism permanent.
