The Real War on Christmas

Fox News is turning a season of love, friendship and healing into one of ignorance, animosity and disease

‘Tis the season…

… to compare a homeless man setting an artificial Christmas tree on fire outside Fox News headquarters to “Pearl Harbor.” As Fox News contributor Rev. Jacques DeGraff just did.

… to compare teen vigilante killer Kyle Rittenhouse, who fatally shot two people and wounded another, to wrongly accused characters from the Bible including “Jesus Christ himself.” As Charlie Kirk just did.

… to say, “America loves Christmas. Whether you're Muslim, whether you're Christian, whether you're Jewish, everyone loves Christmas.” As Donald Trump just did.

And apparently… ‘tis also the season…

… to tell millions of viewers they “should be very scared” of vaccine mandates for restaurants the same week that your own company institutes a 100% vaccine mandate for its own employees. As Fox News management just did.

… and to tell your fans to “ambush” Dr. Fauci and then “go in for the kill shot.” As Fox News host Jesse Watters just did.

There’s nothing like the holiday season to bring out the hyperbole, hypocrisy, racism and rage of the perpetually victimized Trump-Fox News army of snowflakes.

Once again, Fox News is encouraging viewers to cling to their oversized guns and distorted view of religion instead of opening their hearts to the peace, love and inclusion that Jesus recommends.

With Trump’s latest “everyone loves Christmas” remarks I’m not sure if he’s wearing his Old White Racist Christmas hat or his Gaslighting Con Artist one. But I’m old enough to remember when Whoopi Goldberg explained what Donald Trump doesn’t quite get. America started to say “Happy Holidays” to make the end-of-year holiday period a time where everyone could feel included, not insulted. As Whoopi said: “When you’re walking past somebody, you don’t know what their religious beliefs are or whether they have them. If they have religious beliefs and you can’t tell what they are, say ‘Happy Holidays.’”

America never stopped saying “Merry Christmas.” But most of us stopped being assholes about it when it might be insensitive.

This year, thanks to Fox News, we heard more about the guy who lit a fake tree on fire than we did about New Hampshire’s first pediatric Covid death. Or the first child under age 9 who just died of Covid in Wisconsin.

Thanks to Fox News, American flight attendants are exhausted from dealing with increasingly violent passengers.

Thanks to Fox News, there’s so much vaccine resistance in America that more than half of Taco Bell, Subway and IHOP workers are still unvaccinated.

Thanks to Fox News, only 61% of Americans are now fully vaccinated (compared to Cuba at 90%, China at 83%, S. Korea at 81%, Canada at 78%, Japan at 78%, Australia at 77%, France at 72%, U.K. at 70%, and even Bolsonaro’s Brazil at 67%), meaning that millions of unvaccinated Americans will ensure Omicron spreads like a MAGA Plague this winter.

Instead of promoting hope and healing this holiday season, Fox News is encouraging violence and the virus. That’s not just an insult to Baby Jesus. It’s an all-out War on Christmas.

The newest variant is surging. The hospitals are filling up. Hundreds of Americans are dying preventable deaths every day.

But in the brainwashed minds of Fox News viewers at least one thing is going right. We’re finally saying “Merry Christmas” again!
