Trump is guilty of 34 felonies. These felonies may, by themselves, have helped him steal the election in 2016.
But Republicans don't care.
He committed other election crimes in 2016, too. Crimes that sent multiple associates to prison. Crimes for which he personally went unprosecuted.
Trump also committed massive crimes against America in relation to the 2020 election and the theft of the nation's most valuable secrets. The evidence shows that he:
- Led a conspiracy to overturn the 2020 election
- Incited a violent insurrection
- Stole Classified documents, hid them by a toilet, and refused to give them back when asked
In addition to the 34 felonies he's already been convicted for, these crimes have resulted in dozens more felony counts against him, spread between the Georgia election interference case, the January 6th insurrection case in DC, and the Florida Classified documents case.
It now appears that corruption in the judicial system, most especially by Trump appointees in Florida and on the US Supreme Court, will ensure that none of Trump's remaining election or documents trials will occur before the 2024 election.
Trump has also been named as an "unindicted co-conspirator" in election interference cases in Arizona and Michigan.
Republicans don't care about those crimes, either.
Republicans fully embrace Trump's criminality. They also endorse his growing emphasis on violence.
Despite Trump's known history of getting people attacked, bombed and even killed, Republican electeds shrug as judges, jurors, prosecutors and witnesses are doxxed and terrorized by Trump supporters.
The only real verdict will come on November 5, they say.
If Trump's criminality is "baked in," what can Democrats do?
Early polls show that Trump's NY convictions may have some impact with some voters. Perhaps a few Republicans and a batch of Independents will be swayed by the fact that Trump is a convicted felon. But the lack of any future—or televised—criminal trials make it hard to say how Trump's felony convictions will work against him come November.
Between now and Election Day, the attacks on Biden will be relentless.
The GOP's voter intimidation efforts will be intense.
Russia-publican propaganda, misinformation and dirty tricks will also be off the charts.
If the Stormy Daniels case didn’t convince people, the corruptly delayed trials won't either.
But that's not the end of the story.
Whatever people might argue about the current criminal cases against Trump, there's no denying that they fit into a consistent, lifelong pattern of rule-breaking and lawlessness.
For decades, Trump has gotten away with a litany of crimes and offenses—and has been emboldened to commit more and bigger crimes—precisely because no one stopped him.
What if we simply reminded people what an immoral and disgusting slob he is?
If a majority of Americans can be convinced of one thing this year, I believe it is this: On a simply human level, Trump is repulsive. He's disgusting. He's immoral.
When his supporters try comparing him to Jesus Christ and Nelson Mandela, we should be reminding them he's more like Harvey Weinstein and Bernie Madoff.
And we can back up our assertions with facts, not fan art.
In addition to his 34 felonies, there are many more verdicts and civil judgments that voters should be reminded of on a regular basis.
Because, in addition to being a convicted felon, Trump is also:
- A self-confessed sex predator and adjudicated rapist: Trump was a long-time Epstein associate, a frequent attendee at the sex trafficker's parties, and a relentless and remorseless "pussy grabber." In the civil case brought against him by E. Jean Carroll, the judge said the jury concluded he committed rape "as many people commonly understand the word "rape.'" In that case, he was ordered to pay Carroll $5 million. A second jury found him liable for defamation against Carroll, for which he has been ordered to pay an additional $83.3 million.
- A business fraud who is currently barred from doing business in New York: After a civil fraud case that found him liable for massive, multi-year business fraud, Trump was fined $355 million plus interest, bringing the total he owes New York to more than $450 million. Trump was barred from running a business in New York for three years and, according to Justice Arthur Engoron showed a "lack of contrition and remorse" that "borders on pathological."
- A money launderer with ties to organized crime: From the minute the Trump Taj Mahal casino opened in New Jersey in 1990 it was breaking U.S. anti-money laundering rules. According to a 1998 settlement agreement with the IRS, it admitted to breaking those rules 106 times in its first year and a half of operations. The casino paid a $478,000 fine in 1998. And it only got worse from there. In 2015, Trump’s Taj Mahal casino was fined $10 million by the U.S. Treasury's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network and admitted to "willful and repeated" violations of the Bank Secrecy Act. Reporters including David Cay Johnston and the late Wayne Barrett have extensively chronicled Trump's social and business dealings with mobsters and other criminals. During a 2004 panel at the Museum of Television and Radio in Los Angeles, Trump said he had resisted the initial offer to appear on The Apprentice because: "You know, mobsters don’t like, as they’re talking to me, having cameras all over the room. It would play well on television, but it doesn’t play well with them."
- A con artist who paid a $25 million fine for operating a fake university: War widows and seniors were among the victims who were relentlessly exploited by Donald Trump through his fake Trump University operation. The victims were told they would learn the secrets of Trump's success in real estate and were charged up to $34,995 for the "Gold Elite" package. Salespeople were told: "If they complain about the price, remind them that Trump is the BEST!!" None of the materials used by the fake university were created by Trump or even reviewed by Trump. Complainants alleged that “the contents and material... were developed in large part by a third-party company that creates and develops materials for an array of motivational speakers and Seminar and timeshare rental companies."
- A charity thief who paid a $2 million fine for a Foundation that was shuttered because he stole from it: Before running for president, Trump famously worked with his son Eric to steal more than $400,000 from children with cancer. That was a crime for which he was never prosecuted. He also used his Trump Foundation as a slush fund for his personal affairs for many years. He was exposed in 2016 when he diverted more than $2.8 million he had raised supposedly for U.S. veterans to his political campaign and campaign staff. The Trump Foundation was shut down in 2019 and Trump agreed to 19 admissions acknowledging his personal misuse of funds. Trump was ordered to pay $2 million to eight different charities, with each receiving $250,000. The settlement also included mandatory training requirements intended to teach Donald Trump Jr., Ivanka Trump, and Eric Trump how not to steal from from a charity.
The bullet points above offer five easy-to-understand insights into the type of person Trump has always been. If you want more reminders about how awful he is, I've added a few more links below.
But to summarize:
Even if some voters refuse to believe Trump is a traitor to America who looks out only for himself, they cannot deny the established facts, many of which he has bragged about or, as the result of legal actions, been forced to admit: Trump is a rapist as well as a racist. He's lazy and a liar. He's a thief, a money launderer, a fraud and a con artist. He's a coward who not only mocks veterans, he steals from them, too. He's used his fame to exploit his fans. He's stolen from war widows, seniors, and even kids with cancer. He's an immoral and disgusting slob who cheats on his wives and sexualizes women at every opportunity, even his own daughter. He pretends to be tough, but he gets weaker and whinier every day. He's a physical wreck and he's deteriorating before our eyes. He has no empathy for others. No remorse for his actions. And he's psychologically unfit to be president.
