Voters Reject Trump

Let's celebrate last night's wins. And keep fighting to ensure sure we get the chance to do it again.

Voters Reject Trump

"Democrats win across the spectrum as voters reject Trump," says the CNN headline today.

It was, says CNN, "a vivid show of discontent with President Donald Trump nearly a year into his second term."

The only question now is whether or not this "vivid show of discontent" is too little, too late.

Because nothing Trump has done in his first 10 months back in office should be surprising to anyone.

As I wrote the day after Election Day last year:

America is, indeed, going back. Not to a time of greatness. But to a time of darkness.
The bullies have won. The cheaters have won. The polluters have won. The criminals have won. The oligarchs have won. The predators have won.
The people, even though half the country won’t realize it for a while, have lost.
This time, Trump’s incompetence, laziness and stupidity won’t save us.
He’ll be surrounded by people eager to execute his most fascistic and vengeful plans.

One year after what might still be remembered as "America's last Presidential election," it remains to be seen if American democracy can ever be fully (or meaningfully) restored.

Nothing should have been surprising, because the plans were all laid out in advance.

As I wrote in May 2024, Americans should have seen the consequences of allowing "asshole white men" to decide everything about their own and the children's futures.

It was obvious where things were headed when the psychopath Trump, in league with the die-hard Christo-fascists and power-hungry Tech-fascists, claimed victory last November:

Everything that can be stolen will be stolen.
Everything that can be corrupted will be corrupted.
Things will be bad.
The technology that we’re told is “keeping us safe” will actually be used to keep us in our place.
Four years from now, the world will look very different—and be on a tech-driven trajectory that cannot be stopped.

The media failed us in the last election.

They failed us in the early days of the Trump regime when we lived through — and barely noticed — "the most consequential security breach in U.S. history."

They continue to fail us as we sleepwalk toward the midterms acting as if Trump will even allow those elections to happen if there's even a chance his rubberstamp Republicans might lose.

And the media — increasing controlled by "a handful of regime-friendly oligarchs" — will abandon all pretense at serving the needs of the people in the months and years ahead.

So while it's great to celebrate the fact voters rejected Trump last night, it's even more important to stay engaged — and to keep fighting to ensure sure we're allowed to reject Trump again next November.
