Trump Inflation Accelerates

Bloomberg: "US wholesale inflation accelerated in July by the most in three years, suggesting companies are passing along higher import costs related to tariffs."

Trump Inflation Accelerates

The U.S. Producer Price Index (PPI) surged 4.5X more than expected in July, coming in at 0.9% vs. the 0.2% predicted by economists.

This is the biggest monthly increase since June 2022, reports CNBC, and "a most unwelcome surprise," according to Chris Zaccarelli, chief investment officer at Northlight Asset Management.

The PPI has now increased 3.3% over the past year, well above the Federal Reserve’s 2% inflation target. The unexpected July increase, if annualized, would equate to an 11% increase.

The jump in the PPI comes a day after core CPI rose to 3.1 % in July. According to CNBC: "Federal Reserve officials generally consider core inflation to be a better reading for longer-term trends."

Food inflation is hitting hard as food stamps are getting cut

One of the biggest warning signs for consumers in today's PPI report was the 38.9% increase in prices for fresh and dry vegetables from June to July which, reports Axios, "was the biggest month-on-month increase for fresh vegetables since March 2022."

As Matt Stoller wrote on Substack: "Food is not considered part of 'core' inflation by economists, but it is by those of us who need to eat."

And it not just "Veggie-flation." Wholesale beef prices jumped 4.6%. Eggs were up 7.3%, and coffee prices 1.1%.

Food inflation news is especially bad when considered alongside the impact of massive cuts to the federal Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), which, reports NPR, will have a major impact on independent grocery stores, especially in low-income areas:

Grocery stores in the U.S. typically get about 12% of their sales through SNAP, according to the National Grocers Association. But that number can go as high as 70% for some independent grocers in low-income areas — both urban and rural communities that might otherwise be food deserts. These are the stores at the highest risk of closing due to SNAP cuts.

Seven months into Trump's second term and it's already clear the "New Golden Age" isn't trickling down to regular MAGA voters.

We can't expect the media to hammer home the connection between Trump's tariff policies, the rapidly rising cost of groceries, the collapsing job market, and all the betrayals contained in the "Big Beautiful Bill."

It's up to us to add to the cracks in the MAGA coalition wherever we can

As he was in his first term, Trump is both asleep at the wheel and too dumb to understand any of the cascading crises he's creating.

Trump's only plan is to manufacture chaos and accelerate the steamroller of fascism in the hopes that America will succumb to his domination.

The only way he will allow the midterms to happen is if he's sure the fix is in before the first vote is cast.

The more that he "floods the zone," the more the steamroller moves along.

With the media still failing us, it's more important than ever for Americans to work together to defeat fascism.

The shitstorm is unrelenting. The cruelty is inexplicable...

... But in this moment, the Epstein Files scandal is causing cracks in the MAGA coalition and helping erode Republican support for Trump.

People understand that it’s Trump who’s failing.

Trump who’s lying.

Trump who’s covering up sex crimes.

Trump who’s trying to deny reality.

The blinders are falling away from many people’s eyes. That’s why every conversation matters. Every social media post matters. Every act of kindness matters. Every community action matters. And every shared “truth bomb” matters, whether it comes from Joe Rogan or Jasmine Crockett.

Republicans control everything.

And everything is falling apart.

That’s true in Blue cities and Red states.

Republicans can’t pretend it’s not their fault.

Democrats remain the party of empathy. The party that wants to protect workers, women, children, seniors, veterans, and the rights of everyone. The party that believes in healthcare and education and an EPA that actually wants to protect the environment.

Facts have a liberal bias.

Sprinkle a few wherever you can.

Because time is running out.

We cannot allow Trump to distract from the negative effects of his unpopular policies.

We must not allow his chaos agenda and his personal psychopathy to destroy America’s future.
