President Biden didn’t mince words when asked today what his message was to “platforms like Facebook” who are continuing to allow the spread of Covid misinformation: “They’re killing people.”
The sad truth is, thanks to the competence of the Biden Administration in rapidly distributing vaccines across America, Covid could indeed have gone away like a miracle this summer.
But it takes more than heat—it takes herd immunity.
As I’ve written before, Biden’s progress in vaccinating America has been hampered by the concerted efforts of Fox News, Facebook and the GOP who would, it seems, prefer to see Americans die by the thousands than do anything to help a Democratic President make America great again.
Over the past few weeks, the rapid spread of the highly contagious Delta Variant has caused what CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky calls, “a pandemic of the unvaccinated,” with transmission levels surging in states such as Florida, Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Missouri and Nevada. Things are getting so bad in Florida under Ron “DeathSantis” that his state alone now accounts for 1 in 5 new Covid cases in America.
Tucker Is Killing Us, Too.
As a new video from Occupy Democrats made clear this week, Mark Zuckerberg is not the only one helping misinformation go viral. White supremacist poster boy Tucker Carlson is also using his Fox News platform to “ask questions” about the vaccine:
Tucker’s questions ignore, of course, the proven effectiveness of the vaccines, which have helped America bounce back from the “Trump Crash” faster than many anticipated and put America on track for the fastest economic growth in decades.
As the NY Times, noted this week, Tucker is not the only influential Fox News extremist who is pushing the anti-vax narrative. Laura Ingraham and her guests, “have said on the air that the vaccines could be dangerous; that people are justified in refusing them; and that public authorities have overstepped in their attempts to deliver them.”
All this despite the fact that, as soon as the vaccine was available, Fox News’s owner Rupert Murdoch made sure to get his shots before even, “the queen of England and the president-elect of the United States.”
Has Tucker himself been vaccinated? He won’t say, telling TIME’s Charlotte Alter that it was a “supervulgar personal question” and countering by asking her, “What’s your favorite sexual position and when did you last engage in it?”
Hilarious comeback, Tucker. You’re killing us.
