# RIP Twitter

Twitter is no more.

The social media site is now "X."

It's not just [the death of an iconic brand](https://techcrunch.com/2023/07/24/as-twitter-destroys-its-brand-by-renaming-itself-x-mastodon-usage-numbers-are-again-soaring/?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io).

It's Elon Musk's admission that his version of Twitter has failed.

Under Musk, hate speech has not only flourished. It's now [being monetized](https://unprecedented.ghost.io/archive/hate-pays/).

Legitimate journalism [has been deboosted](https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2023/03/30/elon-musk-twitter-hate-speech/?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io). 

Trusted voices [have left the platform.](https://www.npr.org/2023/04/12/1169269161/npr-leaves-twitter-government-funded-media-label?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io)

Advertisers [have moved on](https://www.bbc.com/news/business-66217641?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io). 

For months, Musk has [failed to pay his bills](https://qz.com/elon-musk-twitter-unpaid-bills-office-eviction-1850546732?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io) and proven himself incapable of [running the site](https://www.nytimes.com/2023/02/28/technology/twitter-outages-elon-musk.html?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io).

Musk's ownership of Twitter has been an [embarrassing and expensive disaster](https://www.cnbc.com/2022/10/05/banks-financing-musks-twitter-deal-face-hefty-losses.html?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io) for the bank CEOs who backed him—who now look as gullible as Musk's pre-SNL [Dogecoin](https://www.coindesk.com/price/dogecoin/?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io) marks.

Now the [free-speech fraud](https://unprecedented.ghost.io/archive/saudi-arabias-useful-idiot/) and [misogynistic memester](https://unprecedented.ghost.io/archive/musk-v-women-part-2/) (who followed 0 women during his first 7 years on Twitter) wants you to trust him with your cash as as well as your data as he turns X an "everything app" that includes banking and payments.

There's never been a better time to quit Twitter.

Because if you stay on X after [all you now know about Elon Musk](https://www.oprah.com/oprahs-lifeclass/when-people-show-you-who-they-are-believe-them-video?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io), don't be surprised if people start [asking Y](https://twitter.com/ben%5Frosen/status/1683483793204674560?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io)?
