Rambling Man

Rambling Man

If you've ever gotten into a car with an elderly person who insists, despite obvious signs of their physical and mental decline, that they are still OK to drive, there comes a day when you have to say, "This can't go on."

These days, every Trump speech sounds like it's the last car ride anyone should be taking with grandpa.

He gets lost on familiar roads. He keeps drifting into the wrong lane. He repeatedly honks — loudly — for no apparent reason. When it's time to slow down, he hits the accelerator by mistake.

Speaking to the assembled leaders at the United Nations General Assembly, Trump:

  • Told the rest of the world: "Your countries are going to hell."
  • Called climate scientists "stupid people."
  • Claimed America's air is the cleanest it's been for years, except for the fact it's really dirty when you get up high because of the pollution that "blows over" from China.
  • Outlined a plan to actively pollute America's air a lot more because it's the only way to compete with all those other polluters taking advantage of us.
  • Remained confused about the efficiency of windmills and the difference between "asylum seekers" and people who have escaped from mental institutions.
  • Repeated the lie that he had created the greatest economy in history in his first term. Then claimed the currently imploding US economy was even better.
  • Confessed he had submitted a failed bid to renovate the U.N. building years ago. Then, apparently realizing just admitted a failure, he insulted the building, saying he would have done it cheaper and better, with more mahogany and marble.

It's hard to put into words what an absolute embarrassment Trump would be as leader of any nation.

As America's President, Trump's a global laughingstock. As his mental decline accelerates, he's a danger to the world.

It's hard to imagine that Elon Musk and Peter Thiel won't soon be telling their protégé JD Vance to invoke the 25th Amendment.

Because, as the world saw today, we can no longer trust grandpa with the car keys. Let alone the nuclear codes.
