# Misleading Again

**The good news:** The man who swore he would never golf or use a Teleprompter returned from his most recent golf vacation to read a Teleprompter speech designed to “de-escalate” the crisis he created while on the golf course. World War Three has been postponed.

**The bad news:** Trump packed his speech with enough sniffling and mispronunciations to get “Slurring” and “Adderall” trending on Twitter:

**The worse news:** Trump continues to present an Alternative-Fact-based account of how he got us into this mess in the first place, as Obama’s former Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy and Public Affairs (and former TIME Managing Editor) Richard Stengel explained on MSNBC:

Obama didn’t “give” the Iranians money in exchange for the Iran Deal. Trump did not miraculously make America “energy independent” in the last three years. And, as we’ve known all along, America is not being made safer as a result of [Trump’s ignorant, bumbling, incoherent policy toward Iran.](https://www.huffpost.com/entry/trump-iran-strategy%5Fn%5F5b57a856e4b0fd5c73c9d519?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io) In fact, as Stengel makes clear, because Trump has unilaterally walked away from the deal struck by Obama with which Iran was complying, “Iran will now go hell-bent for leather to create a nuclear weapon.”

Of course, no real leader would blame his predecessor for a crisis that he himself created three years into his own Presidency.
