Elon Musk's Christmas message that Americans aren't worth the effort didn't go over well in MAGA world.
On Christmas Day, Musk tweeted that "investing in Americans is actually hard" and not worth the "money and time and effort" to make those useless lumps productive.
His solution was simple: "bring in skilled workers who... will work for a fraction of the cost and be happy just to be here.”
Anti-Indian racist Laura Loomer (who was denounced by Marjorie Taylor Greene during the campaign for suggesting that the White House would smell of curry if Harris won) was the first to incur Musk's wrath after launching "a multi-day social media tirade over President-elect Donald Trump’s recent appointment of Indian-American entrepreneur Sriram Krishnan as a senior policy adviser for AI" which caused "the loyal MAGA supporter to rage about Krishnan’s support of H-1B visas for Indian immigrants."
Following Musk's tweet she got into an "escalating feud" with him and Vivek Ramaswamy "over Silicon Valley’s reliance on foreign-born workers."
Soon a "MAGA civil war" was raging on X and Musk punished dozens of MAGA influencers by removing their X verification badges and taking away their ability to monetize their accounts.
Along the way, Loomer called Musk "a total fucking drag on the Trump transition" and a "stage 5 clinger."
Musk responded by calling Loomer an "attention-seeking troll."
As Seth Cotlar writes on Bluesky, this latest "Twitter Files" kerfuffle only goes to show (yet again) how little Musk actually believes in free speech and that "the parameters of acceptable expression... should be set by using generalizable rules, not the whims and preferences of a platform’s owner."
But, writes Cotlar, "oligarchs are gonna oligarch."
