It's Still the Economy. And Trump's Still Stupid.

Even Fox Business can't spin the latest Trump jobs disaster.

It's Still the Economy. And Trump's Still Stupid.

As I wrote in 2020, Trump is absolutely, positively the dumbest person America could have picked to lead us through complicated times.

Six years later, as his physical and mental disintegration gets worse by the day, Trump is not just starting wars and breaking laws. He's also driving the US economy off a cliff.

As I wrote in January, the full-year jobs numbers for 2025 were calamitous.

As I wrote last month, the January jobs report was a disaster.

The February jobs numbers were so bad, Trump was left speechless

Despite his ridiculous claims that the Trump economy is the greatest in history, Friday's jobs report was so bad that Trump himself didn't even mention it, choosing to focus instead on his new priority: "Make Iran Great Again!"

But negative reactions to the Trump jobs slump came from all directions.

"Yikes," tweeted economist Heather Long. "Almost every major industry group shed jobs in February."

In total the US economy shed 92,000 jobs in February (missing the pre-release estimate of +50,000 by 142,000 jobs).

But the story doesn't end there.

Once again, downward revisions to previous reports showed that (as regular readers of this newsletter are already aware) the US economy has been in deep distress for months.

As economics professor Justin Wolfers tweeted:

The brutal negative revisions... aren't saying the labor market showed green shoots that withered. It's saying that there never were any green shoots. They were an illusion.

As The New York Times reported:

Revisions to previous months bolstered the case that the job cuts in February were consistent with a broader decline rather than a blip... job growth for the last three months effectively slowed to zero.

Meanwhile, oil prices have surged 35% since Trump launched his unpopular and unprovoked war in the Middle East.

Prices at the pump are already up 33 cents in just one week.

Trump's "Golden Age" of stupidity is leaving almost everyone poorer

Even before Qatar's energy minister warned that Trump's war in Iran could send oil prices to $150 a barrel and "bring down the economies of the world," inflation in the US was surging again thanks to Trump.

Core wholesale prices rose 0.8% in January, "much more than expected," reports CNBC. On an annual basis, core wholesale prices are now up 3.6%

Meanwhile, child care costs are rising at 2X the rate of inflation.

And, according to Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, we should expect more tariff shocks ahead. Trump tariffs are about to go back up to 15% globally, Supreme Court be damned.

Our Idiot-in-Chief has turned the "Biden Boom" into a "Trump Tailspin"

Less than 14 months into Trump's second term, we're already seeing the devastation caused by his reckless "trickle-down" and tariff policies.

Employment in America has declined in five of the last nine months.

Unemployment is rising — it's now at 4.4% nationally.

Black unemployment has surged to 7.7%.

Trump's waging an illegal war that's costing American taxpayers $1 billion a day.

Of course, if Trump wanted to fulfill his "America First" promises, he wouldn't waste $1 billion a day on an unprovoked war in Iran.

He'd look for ways to improve the lives of working families — focusing on vital areas like healthcare, childcare, affordable housing, food security, and education.

MAGA voters watching their rural hospitals close might be offended to know that $1 billion — one day of the war's cost — could keep more than 120 at-risk rural hospitals open for a full year.

The next day, Trump could use $1 billion to provide fully paid, year-long childcare vouchers for 75,000 working families.

The day after that, $1 billion could buy a full year's worth of groceries for more than 66,000 families.

But this is Trump. So Americans shouldn't expect things to improve. Trump can always find ways to make things worse.
