President Trump has repeatedly promised Americans he would bring an end to violent crime and make it safe for people to once again go out of their houses without getting shot.
As with many Trump promises, the opposite is true.
A masked man shot and killed a 37-year-old white woman, a U.S. citizen, in broad daylight on a Minneapolis street today.
Videos of the shooting show the killer, an ICE officer, standing clear of the vehicle and in no apparent danger as he shoots three times at point-blank range into the driver-side window.
One such video, taken by bystander Caitlin Callenson and obtained by the Minnesota Reformer, directly contradicts Homeland Security spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin who alleged that the masked man opened fired only after the woman "weaponized her vehicle, attempting to run over our law enforcement officers in an attempt to kill them."
According to NPR: "At a fiery press conference on Wednesday afternoon, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey said ICE was 'trying to spin this as an action of self-defense. Having seen the video myself, I want to tell everybody that is bull***.'"
Trump, who also claimed to have watched "a clip of the event," wrote on Truth Social that the gunman had to be taken to hospital after being viciously run over and that "it was hard to believe the man was still alive."
There are no news reports mentioning the ICE officer being hospitalized. Trump's false account of what happened was further contradicted by a video posted on Bluesky by the Patriot Takes account that allegedly depicts the masked killer walking calmly away from the scene.
As Melissa Chan, the Chinese-American author of the graphic novel You Must Take Part in Revolution, posted on Bluesky: "If anyone is stunned how Trump and his team can tell you not to believe your own eyes when there is pretty clear video, that’s what Maoist China did. Farmers literally died of famine while the Party declared victory. That may be an extreme comparison, but it’s the same MO."
NOTE: Trump has been telling us since 2018 not to trust our own eyes: "Don't believe the crap you see from these people, the fake news. ... What you're seeing and what you're reading is not what's happening."
Today's fatal shooting is at least the 14th time in Trump's second term that ICE agents have been involved in shootings with actual firearms (as opposed to less-lethal weapons such as rubber bullets or pepper balls) on America's streets.
In addition, 32 people died in ICE custody in 2025, making it the agency’s deadliest year in more than two decades.
Trump may want to lie about the facts about today's fatal shooting.
But those facts are clear.
Trump hired and armed the shooter.
Then sent him to Minneapolis to commit his crime.
