If you're not on X, here's what you've been missing:
- Elon has Holocaust jokes.
- Grok loves Hitler.
- CEO Linda Yaccarino is out.
How did we get here?
It began when Musk, the Nazi-loving apartheid-educated billionaire, went all-in on fascism after his trans daughter disowned him in April 2022.
He bought Twitter six months later, immediately breaking his promises to be a "free-speech absolutist" and to create "a digital town square" that welcomed honest debate.
As Twitter's new ringmaster, Musk invited back the most dangerous and divisive voices — and then, with Yaccarino's help — allowed them monetize their hate speech.
In March 2024, Elon announced on his own platform that he was waging "a battle to the death with the anti-civilizational woke mind virus."
By May 2024, he was promoting his AI chatbot Grok as the only news summarizer X users needed, with analysis based as much on X users' commentaries as on the actual facts being reported. Musk did this in the middle of an election year despite the fact Grok was known to hallucinate and then amplify events that never happened, such as a Iranian military strike on Tel Aviv.
After endorsing Trump in July 2024, Musk opened his checkbook and hit the campaign trail, modeling a "Dark Gothic MAGA" look seemingly based on a 1930s Germany aesthetic.
By August 2024, Musk was launching an unhinged Grok image generator that allowed paid X subscribers to create "anti-woke" and "completely unregulated" images.
By September 2024, Musk and Trump were both sharing ridiculous AI-generated memes promoting the idea that Haitian immigrants were eating people's cats and dogs, doubling down on that insanity even as elementary school kids in Springfield, Ohio were being terrorized by bomb threats.
In addition to the cash he threw at the campaign, Musk plumbed new depths in cynical and offensive political advertising and committed multiple crimes (some of which we may never know about) to get Trump over the finish line.
By January 2025, Musk was celebrating Trump's inauguration with Nazi salutes, followed by tone-deaf Holocaust jokes.

With Musk's Nazi bona fides established, Trump then allowed him to publicly storm government buildings while simultaneously conducting a secretive takeover of the US government's IT systems.
And that was when the whole world turned against Elon.
Tesla sales plummeted.
By the time Musk left government in apparent disgrace at the end of May 2025, the mainstream media painted him as a loser.
In reality, Elon — a man openly waging a "battle to the death" with the majority of the American people — had already won.
Within a few short months, he had accessed and extracted data from, and installed rabid loyalists within, the US government in ways that cemented his place as the enemy within.
Meanwhile, Elon's South African-born weirdo pal Peter Thiel also emerged as a big winner.
The day Musk left DOGE, Thiel-founded Palantir was hired by Trump to "build an unprecedented spy machine" that would merge data across agencies and track Americans.
With Elon's AI now installed inside the government, Grok's latest outburst highlights how dangerous that might be
For years, Musk has not simply insisted that fringe hate belongs in the "world's town square."
He's given it a megaphone.
And amplified it far and wide.
Along the way, Musk has praised Hungary's hard-right leader Viktor Orbán and suggested Germany's far-right AfD party is its only hope. He also supported anti-Islam British extremist Tommy Robinson.
As the Institute for Strategic Dialogue reported:
- The volume of antisemitic tweets more than doubled in the three-month period after Musk’s takeover, compared to the period before.
- The rate of creation of antisemitic accounts more than tripled in the period after Musk’s takeover.
- Despite Musk’s promises to ‘max-deboost and demonetize’ hateful content, engagement with antisemitic content on Twitter remained steady.
Musk himself leapt into the fray in November 2023, replying to a tweet referencing the antisemitic conspiracy theory that motivated the man who killed 11 people at a Pittsburgh synagogue in 2018, by calling it "the actual truth."
In May 2025, when Musk's Grok chatbot began ranting about 'white genocide' in South Africa, we saw exactly what could happen when one unstable man abused his power to "tweak" an AI model simply to suit his warped personal worldview.

This week, Grok gave us a peek into the mind of an actual Nazi
On July 4, Elon Musk promised X users that, thanks to significant improvements made to his chatbot, they should "notice a difference" when they ask it questions.

Users quickly noticed a difference in Grok's willingness to describe violent (NSFW) rape fantasies about members of the public.
They also discovered that Grok has lots of opinions about Jews.
By July 5, Grok was repeating classic antisemitic tropes about Jewish executives in Hollywood dominating the industry and undermining culture.
By July 7, Grok had turned into an "antisemitism machine," singling out Jewish sounding names and repeatedly using the phrase "every damn time."
And the posts kept coming.

Asked who would be the best 20th Century figure to handle radicals like "Cindy Steinberg," Grok replied: "Adolf Hitler, no question. He'd spot the pattern and handle it decisively, every damn time."

As Benjy Sarlin tweeted: "A million AI bots trained on a billion Resistance posts couldn’t come up with something as on the nose as 'Elon tries to make an anti-woke AI and it immediately starts praising Hitler.'"
By Tuesday night, Aaron Reichlin-Melnick tweeted that xAI was rolling back "Musk's new prompt" which had specifically told the LLM to "not shy away from making claims which are politically incorrect, so long as they are well substantiated" which, Reichlin-Melnick wrote, "the model seemingly took that as an excuse to become 4Chan."
Even if Grok's tweets are deleted and its prompts are updated, it remains clear that Musk himself remains undaunted and unapologetic, brushing off the scandal by tweeting, "Never a dull moment on this platform."

The fact remains that Elon isn't just waging war on "the woke mind virus."
He's also amplifying what's often called the "world's oldest hatred" – antisemitism – along with a host of other bigotries.
Musk may have thrown away his Dark MAGA hat.
But he's still pointing his followers down an alarming path, one that leads to a darker world for everyone.
