"Do You Hear The People Sing?"

"Do You Hear The People Sing?"

It made headlines in 2016 when the Trump campaign embraced the song "Do You Hear The People Sing?" from Les Misérables as an anthem for his deplorable supporters.

In the past 15 years, the song has reportedly been sung by people protesting tyranny and corruption around the world, from Ukraine (2013-14) to South Korea (2016) to Sri Lanka (2022) and beyond.

The song made major headlines in 2020 when high school students in Hong Kong sang it in protest to drown out the Chinese national anthem.

However, when the Army Choir sang the song on 22 February 2025 at the White House Governors' Ball, no major media reported on the fact.

As several social media commentators have pointed out, the revolutionary anthem about the never-ending fight for freedom and justice hits different in the White House in 2025 than it did on the campaign trail in 2016.

Especially when sung by a diverse array of brave, Constitution-loving patriots to a self-proclaimed, law-defying "King."
