Everything’s bigger in Texas. And dumbasses are no exception. Case in point: Texas Governor Greg Abbott.
Abbott is famous for blaming windmills for the failure of the Texas power grid, signing bills to make it easier for people buy to get guns, and promoting mass shootings by encouraging those gun-lovers to “defend themselves” against immigrants.
He’s also one of the deadliest COVIDIOTS in America.
In 2021, Texas has leapfrogged New York in COVID deaths
Even without the vaccine, basic safety measures—and the dramatic improvements in treatments made along the way—could have helped Texas keep COVID deaths to a minimum. But the arrival of the vaccine—and Biden’s success at delivering it—gave Abbott the easiest way imaginable to dramatically reduce deaths from the virus.
Since May 1, New York, for example, has recorded fewer than 2,000 COVID-19 deaths. Texas in the same time period has recorded more than 4,000.
Looking back even further: When Joe “Still Your President” Biden was inaugurated on January 20th, Texas had recorded 7,927 fewer COVID-19 deaths than New York, which had been overwhelmed after Trump failed to protect it from COVID’s first wave.
Today, Texas is second only to California in total deaths. And its hospitals are overflowing.
Abbott made himself the poster boy for COVID “Freedumb”
Back in March, Abbott reopened Texas “100%” at a time it was ranked a dismal 48th in vaccinations, shrugging off fears that evolving and more contagious variants could soon find new ways to defeat the vaccines.
To make matters worse, Abbott took away elected officials’ power to stop the spread locally:
After Abbott lifted the statewide mask mandate in March, he stripped cities, counties and school districts of the ability to put their own mask rules in place if the pandemic flared up again. As the delta variant has spread unchecked, Abbott has held firm.
How deadly has Abbott’s decision to promote “freedumb”?
A new analysis by the Commonwealth Fund shows that, through July 31st, Abbott’s failure to get Texas vaccinated at a pace similar to other states caused more than 193,000 new cases, more than 32,000 unnecessary hospitalizations—and 1,910 preventable deaths.
Now Abbott himself is infected
On Monday night, Abbott’s own campaign proudly tweeted pictures and video of the Governor in the middle of a jam-packed, indoor, mask-free Super Spreader event. The next day he revealed he had been diagnosed with Covid, despite being thrice-vaccinated.
Governor Abbott was one of 20,161 new cases reported in Texas yesterday, the first time Texas has recorded more than 20,000 daily cases since February, highlighting the success of his non-stop efforts to spread COVID-19 throughout the state.
Abbott, of course, immediately availed himself of the costly Regeneron treatments that remain unavailable to most of the people his COVIDIOCY has infected. Regular folk in Texas are still waiting for other kids to die so their child can get an ICU bed.
And speaking of Regeneron…
Over in Florida, anti-Fauci, anti-mask T-shirt salesman Ron DeSantis has found another side gig. As a pharmaceutical salesman.
Instead of encouraging people to get free vaccines, DeSantis is now dedicating most of his time and energy into converting the hundreds of thousands of Floridians he’s helped infect with COVID into customers of his top donor’s favorite monoclonal antibody treatment.
The donor is Ken Griffin, who has given DeSantis at least $10.75 million since 2018 — and whose Chicago-based hedge fund Citadel has invested millions into shares of Regeneron Pharmaceutical Inc.
Given the surge in cases in Florida that DeSantis has helped engineer, it’s no surprise that Regeneron shares are up nearly $200 from their March low of $441.
Why did things looks so gloomy for Regeneron back in March? That was when COVID vaccinations first topped two million a day. Vaccinations have since fallen from a peak of 3.38 million on April 13 to the current 7-day average of 763,000.
Interestingly, the “pro-life,” anti-science Governor DeSantis who has spent months encouraging Floridians to ditch their masks and turn down the free vaccine that would have protected them from a deadly infection is now trying to sell them on a costly, non-FDA-approved drug that was tested on cells derived from aborted fetal tissue.
How many cases, hospitalizations and deaths could DeSantis have prevented if he had focused on getting people vaccinated?
The Commonwealth Fund analysis shows that, through July 31st, #DeathSantis alone could have prevented 275,000 cases, 39,000 hospitalizations and more than 2,800 deaths.
DeSantis seems to think killing 2,800 people was a small price to pay in order for Ken Griffin to see a solid return on his investments in both Regeneron the company and #RegeneronRon the politician.
Others might look at the nearly 5,000 deaths DeSantis and Abbott could have prevented through July 31st and see something more criminal.
