- Description: A sad update to the story I posted earlier today.
- Author: Richard Hine

Joan Meyer, 98, was in good health on Friday morning when local police conducted [an illegal, "Gestapo-style" raid](https://unprecedented.ghost.io/archive/fascism-in-kansas/) on her home.

On Saturday afternoon, the *Marion County Record* reported that she had [collapsed and died](http://marionrecord.com/direct/updated%5Fillegal%5Fraids%5Fcontribute%5Fto%5Fdeath%5Fof%5Fnewspaper%5Fco%5Fowner+5447raid+555044415445443a20496c6c6567616c20726169647320636f6e7472696275746520746f20646?ref=unprecedented.ghost.io).

**Further reading**: Joan Meyer's son Eric, owner and publisher of the *Marion County Record*, tells Marisa Kabas that the paper [had been investigating the local police chief](https://thehandbasket.substack.com/p/a-conversation-with-the-newspaper) prior to the illegal raids on his office and home.
